The Tender Touch

He sat alone on a table for four at CCD, his favorite hangout. His eyes were deep and had a shade of purple in them. Maybe you wouldn't see the purple in his eyes but I couldn't avoid it. They were troubled, his eyes, but they were beautifully promising, glimmering with innocence, like they had always been. Deep down in his eyes I saw a flame. A flame that flickered with every storm that rose in him but always managed to survive. The flame that had reassured me for days. The flame that longed to love, and be loved. The flame that was so deep inside that he couldn't feel it's warmth anymore. A flame that only I could see. He had a sheet before him laid on the table. His head was bent low over that sheet of paper in an attempt to write, write something that he'd probably been running away from for years now. He slowly sipped his drink. He was hungry but tired. Really tired. He wanted to break free. He wanted to fly. He made his attempt, it was difficult.

People entered the cafe and left. They all came laughed, loved, talked and left. They gave him a strange look as they walked past him. He watched them with ignorance. He was lost in his thoughts, his decisions, his love, his life. He was fighting, clinging on. Just then, a gust of wind piggybacked a feather with it which rested with love on his arm. He turned his head towards it. He watched it for a moment. The tender touch brought a smile in his eyes. The feather seemed to smile back to him. Again, maybe you wouldn't see that smile, but I couldn't avoid it. His smile brought a smile to me. I sighed in relief. He gently picked up the white feather pouring love in his veins. Soft music played in the silence of his heart. I saw the music play in his eyes. The eyes which had so long facinated me. The eyes which made me love him. The eyes which waited, watched.

With the smile still dancing in his eyes, he got up, folded the sheet carefully in four neat parts and kept it in his wallet. He held the feather in his loose grip and left. My eyes followed him till he dissapeared in the welcoming crowd. I hummed a silent prayer. I searched for a reason to complaint but found none. I smiled remembering the dancing smile in his eyes.
